Details
Understanding clinical trials (studies on
new medicines), clinical research and drug development is crucial
to the successful registration of safe, effective medicines. Within
the pharmaceutical industry there is a wealth of knowledge and
expertise on these processes.
However, this knowledge, expertise and information is less readily
available outside the industry. It is more difficult gaining
accurate, balanced, reliable information on the thoughts, processes
and skills involved. This is not helped by the media hype and
sensationalism which occurs when problems or accidents arise during
drug trials.
Paucity of information on jobs in clinical research and allied fields
also makes career decisions restricted at best, especially in schools.
Few realise that options are much wider than doctor; scientist;
secretary!
Stuart's speciality is introducing you to the clinical
trial process, trial design and the development of a new medicine
or medical device, providing accurate, easy-to-understand information.
He provides training on all aspects of clinical trials and on the wider
drug development process for schools (Key Stage 3 to A-level), colleges,
universities (undergraduates, postgraduates and teaching staff),
professionals and non-professionals in industry and for professional
societies. He also supports careers services in schools, colleges
and universities.
Training can be delivered in more formalised presentations as part of an
educational programme or course, as one-off, stand-alone presentations or
as his innovative and creative hands-on workshop, The Clinical Trial
Experience.
This exciting, creative training
uses easy-to-perform, easy-to-understand activities to lead you through
a clinical trial, from start to finish: from initial study design to
interpretation of the final results.
Theory and explanation are supplemented by a series of practical,
hands-on activities that clearly show why good design and careful
control at all stages of a clinical trial are essential for accurate
and meaningful results. Run your own clinical trial without the
needles and drugs!
The Clinical Trial Experience is available for individuals or
groups.
This flexible training is customized to suit the needs, experience and
ability of your group.
In Schools & colleges, Key Stage 3, 4 &
5 students see first-hand how science is applied in a real-life work
environment. Science-based (and other) careers not commonly advertised
outside the pharmaceutical industry are also addressed. This training
is especially useful to augment GCSE & A-Level syllabuses e.g.,
Clinical Trials unit for AQA A-Level Health &
Social Care and Psychology. Read more...
In Universities, understanding the
clinical trial process is valuable for undergraduate and
post-graduate students in life-sciences, human & biological
sciences and pharmacy; in fact any discipline where graduates
will apply their skills within a pharmaceutical or clinical/medical
research environment.
The Clinical Trial Experience can be condensed into an
educational and thought-provoking presentation for University clubs
and societies e.g., ChemSoc, and also presented as a formal
lecture/lectures as part of an undergraduate or graduate course of
learning or syllabus. Read more

Stuart worked
in clinical research, training and education in the pharmaceutical
industry for more than 18 years and specialises in making complex
processes easy to understand, for all ability levels. He adapts
his presentation style and content to suit each audience and has
experience presenting to everyone from Key Stage 1 school children
to academics, professors and experts in their field of research.
"Stuart is a rare individual. His ability to create sense from chaos, to distil clarity of thinking from murky waters and to impart technical knowledge in a way that makes it all seem simple, is a unique gift. His dry humour and ability to view things from a different angle, was of huge value and support to me in my role. Always challenging and thorough in his dissection, Stuart was great to work with and made meetings interesting! Put simply, he is a man many could learn from, pragmatic, human, reflective and passionate about the positive impact of what he does."
SM : DeMontfort University, Leics.
All training is conducted in a relaxed, non-threatening
atmosphere. Content and training style can be 'mixed &
matched' to suit the audience and can last from one hour to a
whole day (ca. 6 hours).
Every training event is individually designed to meet the needs
of the target audience.
